CONVICTED STEROID USER MIGHT BE INNOCENT

Twenty years ago, Valley Stream, New York was shaken by a gruesome murder. Kelly Tinyes, a then-13 year old resident of the suburban neighborhood, was brutally murdered. She was stabbed with a bayonet, strangled, sexually harassed, killed and stuffed in a sleeping bag by her killer. The suspect back then was their neighbor, someone who had been using anabolic steroids but even then, the family and the public was not 100% into blaming Robert Golub.
From The Associated Press:
A steroids-using bodybuilder who lived down the street was convicted of murder and sentenced to 25 year to life in prison, but the Tinyeses and others insist he could not have inflicted such a brutal attack in his Valley Stream home all by himself.
On Monday, the 20th anniversary of Kelly’s murder, a prosecutor said detectives have uncovered new information that is helping shed more light on the case while putting it back in the public spotlight.
“There’s legitimate information that we have uncovered that really has added to the mystery,” said Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, who quietly reopened the investigation shortly after taking office in 2006 and is now going public with the probe.
Back then, an excuse for a “roid rage” defense would have won Golub his freedom. He didn’t use this defense though and until the very end, said that he didn’t kill Kelly Tinyes. This alone is enough to convince many that he is innocent. Who then did the brutal crime? Richard Tinyes, Kelly’s brother recalled that his sister received a call from a “John” hours before the murder. John Golub is the brother of Robert and was 15 years old when the murder happened. The recent information has made the family and the court reconsider him as the murderer.
