New York Yankees honored Taylor Hooton

Don Hooton, president of the Taylor Hooton Foundation, threw in the first pitch as part of the pre-game ceremonies held before the game of the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. Don Hooton is also the father of the late Taylor Hooton, a high school baseball player of Plano West Senior High in Plano, Texas. Taylor committed suicide in July 2003. It was believed by his family that his suicide was caused by steroids and Clomid intake. He was into Selective Serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) during the time of his death. SSRI is an anti-depressant that was found by FDA to produce suicidal behavior and aggression among children and adolescents.
Aide from the pre-game ceremonies, the Yankees also presented a $10,000 donation to the Taylor Hooton Foundation. The foundation was created in February 2004 by Don Hooton and his family. Its aim is to provide education and information dissemination to high school students especially athletes about the dangers of using performance –enhancing substances. Instead, it promotes proper exercise, diet and hard work as key factors to achieving sports – related goals. It also aims to instill the values of honesty, integrity, fair play and healthy competition among school athletes.
