PPB to test officers for steroids

The Portland Police Bureau will include testing for steroids in random testing of officers for this year in the context of drug abuse.
The city is making the move over the objection of the Portland Police Association.

The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/WZAxFg) the city is making the move over the objection of the Portland Police Association. The union filed a grievance last year, concerned that over-the-counter supplements could test positive for steroids and that any detectable amount of steroids would be considered a violation.
Dr. Linn Goldberg, OHSU’s head of health promotion and sports medicine, said the union is mistaken. “They don’t know what they’re talking about,” Goldberg said.
