Sources have reported that steroids can be prescribed along with chemotherapy along with treating the CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia). The sources also revealed that they help to reduce chemotherapy associated sickness and tiredness.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) is a condition in which accumulation of abnormal lymphocytes in the blood and the bone marrow becomes the main cause of disease. These lymphocytes start performing their functions as abnormal ones. Moreover, they interfere with the production of other blood cells that are necessary for normal functioning of the blood, which in turn leads to a host of complications like coagulation, deficiency of the immune system, swollen lymph nodes, and many other conditions.

The related steroids for treatment are said to be known as prednisolone and dexamethasone.

According to a report by the sources, steroid treatment may also be prescribed if a patient’s red blood cell count starts falling very quickly. This happens when the red blood cells are destroyed by the action of proteins in the bloodstream and the spleen, and is called haemolysis. Its basic symptoms are breathlessness, tiredness, a yellowish tinge to the whites of eyes and dark-colored urine.

From Cancerbackup:

Steroids (prednisolone, dexamethasone) are often prescribed along with chemotherapy. As well as treating the CLL, they help to reduce chemotherapy-related sickness and tiredness. Steroids may also be given if your red blood cell count falls very quickly. This happens when your red blood cells are destroyed by proteins in the bloodstream and the spleen, and is called haemolysis.

If you develop haemolysis, you may become anaemic quite quickly. This is known as haemolytic anaemia. Symptoms include breathlessness, tiredness, a yellowish tinge to the whites of your eyes and dark-coloured urine. If you suddenly notice that you are very tired or breathless, contact the hospital at once. You may need to have a blood test, and possibly treatment.

Thus, on the basis of the report by the sources one can conclude that steroids prednisolone and dexamethasone are helpful in treatment of the CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) and haemolytic anaemia.
