Steroids Produce B Cells for Immune System

Researches have come up with studies that found a link between metabolism, the immune system and the neuro-endocrine systems. Pamela Fraker, MSU Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a lead scientist, said that there are a number of factors such as poor diet, certain steroids, and chronic stress that affect the immune system of the body. Moreover, the neuro-endocrine system does play a big role in both the immune system and body overweight.
It was concluded that Leptin was found to perform a big role in the immune system of the body. Leptin, which is the hormone secreted by fat cells, administered the effect of white blood cell production in the body, enhancing immune function.
From Brightsurf:
Scientists know that a number of factors can affect the body’s immune system: poor diet, certain steroids, chronic stress. Now researchers at Michigan State University have discovered that an appetite-controlling hormone also affects the immune system, while natural versions of certain steroids do not.
“Many investigators have been trying to unlock the key to obesity for years,” said Fraker. “The more fat a person has, the more leptin there is in the bloodstream. In obese people, it seems that the body becomes leptin-resistant — the signals get jammed. So giving obese people leptin doesn’t help them lose weight.”
The MSU scientists proved this by taking two groups of mice, one that was genetically programmed to have non-functional leptin and the other that was genetically programmed to have non-functional leptin receptors. It was found that the mice group that was given additional leptin produced saw as much as a double of the number of B cells, a type of white blood cell produced in bone marrow that fights infection by making antibodies.
The effect of leptin on obese people is expected to be studied as a future course of this study. It may be very effective since the natural leptin in obese people is blocked and so the additional steroid is found to be effective.
