A senate hearing regarding investigations of nutritional supplements with hidden steroids and steroids-like substances will feature a mystery witness, according to reports.

The hearing, which is entitled “Bodybuilding Products and Hidden Steroids: Enforcement Barriers” will be attended by an anonymous witness who has first-hand experience with nutritional supplements containing steroids.

He will sit behind Travis Tygart, the chief executive of US Anti-Doping Agency, who will also testify for the said hearing.

According to Tygart, people should see how unfortunate it is for a person who takes nutritional supplements, expecting it to be able to help in his workouts, only to land in the hospital a few weeks after. This mystery witness will be a living example of the physical destruction these supplements have made.

Last week, FDA authorities issued a search warrant for Bodybuilding.com’s warehouse and headquarters. Several of their supplements were found to be positively containing steroids.

This week, the Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating another supplement company. Ergopharm is the distributor of 6-OXO supplement taken by JC Romero, a Philadelphia Phillies reliever. The supplement allegedly caused Romero to test positive for anabolic steroids and was subsequently suspended in 50 games.

From New York Daily News:

A Senate hearing Tuesday examining the loopholes that have allowed the routine marketing and selling of anabolic steroids under the guise of nutritional supplementation will feature a mystery witness whose medical history could put a human face on the physical destruction such substances can cause.
